A Mindmap for Weighing the Pros and Cons of Any Decision

July 30, 2008

We all have to make decisions everyday.  Weighing the pros and cons of those decisions can be very difficult at times.

To help make the process easier, Mindjet has created a mindmap template that helps you more effectively identify the right solution.  It helps you sort through the pros and cons of any decision.

I’ve personally found this template to be very useful.  There is nothing like seeing your pros and cons side by side.

Here’s the template for your review:

What is Mindmapping? And Why is it Important?

June 6, 2008

Wikipedia defines a Mindmap asa diagram used to represent words, ideas, tasks, or other items linked to and arranged radially around a central key word or idea. It is used to generate, visualize, structure, and classify ideas, and as an aid in study, organization, problem solving, decision making and writing.”

I personally started using mindmapping techniques to take notes at work in 2001.  As I learned about various mindmapping software programs that allowed me to mindmap on my computer, a whole new world opened up for me.  A world where I could dynamically organize all the information in my life – whether that be business or personal.

Since 2001 the mindmapping software has only gotten better.  In fact, today’s mindmapping software handles the simple and complex with ease.  It allows you to see the high-level and then quickly drill-down to the details.  It is truly extraordinary in its ability to handle the multifaceted.

As we all grapple with vast amounts of information in our work and personal lives, we need an effective way to manage that information.

As Chuck Frey, Mindmapping Thought Leader, Blogger, and Author of the groundbreaking E-book entitled The MindMapping Manifesto, states: “What’s needed is a new paradigm for managing ideas, information, data and knowledge – a software tool that enables users to manipulate these assets with greater flexibility, and which helps you to see new connections and possibilities.”  He goes on to say, “One set of tools that meets these requirements amazingly well is mind mapping software.”

Time is a finite resource for all of us.  So effectively capturing, organizing, managing, and sharing information becomes extremely important when you want to get a lot done with the time you have.

To help me effectively manage my time and energy while getting a lot done, I use mindmapping for both my personal and professional life.  I use it for managing meetings, managing projects, brainstorming, taking notes, and managing files, folders, and URL links on my computer.  So to say I’m an avid user is an understatement.

Given the benefits of mindmapping and the rapid pace of its acceptance by millions of people around the world, I wanted to create this blog site to capture and share mindmapping best practices in the areas of business, education, and personal life.

It is my hope that this blog site helps people leverage the power of mindmapping.
